FAQs
What can I expect in a counseling session?
Individual and couple sessions usually last 50 minutes, a little bit longer for the initial session. Group sessions are 90 minutes long. I recommend weekly sessions. Between sessions, clients
are encouraged to think about and process what was discussed. At times, you may be asked to do something specific outside of the therapy sessions, such as practicing the exercises or meditations,
reading a relevant book or keeping a journal. For the therapy to "work," you must be an active participant, both during and between the therapy sessions.
What benefits can I expect from working with a counselor?
A number of benefits are available from participating. Often it is helpful just to know that someone understands. Counseling can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or point you in the
direction of a solution. The benefits you obtain from counseling depend on how well you use the process and put into practice what you learn.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, I participate with CIGNA and CareFirst BCBS only. However, there is a confusing array of insurance arrangements. The first thing you should do is check with your insurance carrier. Check your coverage carefully. Do you have mental health benefits? How many sessions per calendar year does your plan cover? What is your deductible?
